Friends and family gathered under the towering pines surrounding the Catholic Church in Arnold Monday to celebrate the accomplishments of a young man who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Clayton Hart, 16, started Boy Scouts in fifth grade and has worked incredibly hard to achieve his ultimate goal.

Alumni football players brave aches for one more rivalry game
Sunday will most certainly be a day of rest for the 60 or so men signed up to play in Saturday night’s alumni football game between Bret Harte and Calaveras.

Little League all-stars ready to take the field
The 2009 California District 15 Little League all-star tournaments open Saturday at Howard Park in Ione. Teams from Calaveras County’s four Little Leagues – Calaveras American (serving the Angels Camp and Copperopolis areas), Calaveras National (serving San Andreas, Mountain Ranch, Mokelumne Hill, West Point and Rail Road Flat), Ebbetts Pass (serving the Murphys and Arnold areas), and Foothills (serving the Valley Springs area) – will be participating. The tournament runs through July 9.

Murphys Community Church, which met at the Murphys Old Schoolhouse for more than 20 years, will now hold worship services at the Black Bart Playhouse beginning Sunday. Worship service is held at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday.
