The Calaveras Council of Governments unveiled its marketing strategy for the Foothill Rideshare program this week: a shiny Toyota Prius decked out in green vinyl and sporting the program and CCOG logos.

Foothill Rideshare is a free Web-based carpool program that allows anyone to punch in their commute route and time and be matched with other Calaveras County residents in order to reduce the number of cars on the road. So far, the program has been very successful, CCOG members said, and they hope the CCOG hybrid will encourage more people to think green. CCOG staffers use the car for their carpool, but plan to expand the program to area residents who need rides. To sign on with Foothill Rideshare, visit foothillrideshare.com.
