Sequoia Woods Country Club is one of eight teams still alive in its division of the Northern California Golf Association team match playoffs.
On Thursday, Sequoia Woods defeated Blue Rock Springs of Vallejo 23-15 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 30-team tournament, where they will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent on Oct. 2.
Sequoia Woods will need to win three more matches to claim the NCGA team match championship for the first time since 2004.
“These guys have been fighting for every point,” Sequoia Woods team captain Tim Hanrahan said. “We might not be as strong of a team on paper (as the 2004 team), but these guys have a great winning attitude.”
Players that competed for Sequoia Woods' 12-man NCGA team in Thursday's win were Hanrahan, Jim Huth, Jerry Patterson, Allan Corbett, Dick Allen, Kemo Luce, Steve Locke, Jerry Stowe, Bob Asher, Ken Hoekstra, Chris Manos, and Tom Coggan, who was the captain on the 2004 team.
