Dean Aldrich, left, and Dom Nuccio take a sample of the soil at Hobbs Field in Mokelumne Hill. The sample will be sent to Sierra Foothill Laboratory in Jackson, which has offered to test the soil for various toxins, free of charge. If the sample comes back clean, Hobbs Field will be home to a community garden featuring organic produce grown by Mokelumne Hill families. The next community meeting to discuss starting the seven-acre garden will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Wendell’s Lounge. The meeting will discuss a memorandum of understanding with the Mokelumne Hill Veterans Memorial District, which own the land.
