Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings, will be conducting stroke screenings at the Native Sons Hall, 389 Main St., Murphys, on Feb. 2. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m.

A stroke, also known as a “brain attack,” is ranked as the third leading cause of death in the United States and often occurs without warning. In fact, four out of five people who suffer a stroke have no apparent warning signs prior to the stroke, according to a press release from Life Line. The good news is that, with early detection, 80 percent of strokes can be prevented.

Screenings help identify potential health problems such as blocked arteries, irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone-density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for men and women.
A Wellness Package with Heart Rhythm costs $149. All five screenings take 60 to 90 minutes to complete.

For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call (877) 237-1827. Pre-registration is required.
