Valley Springs Turkey Trot to benefit food bank

On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, the Valley Springs Optimist Club will host the inaugural Turkey Trot that will benefit the Calaveras County Resource Connection Food Bank. A one-mile race begins at 8 a.m., followed by a 5K race at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Valley Springs.

Registration will be held at 7 a.m. the day of the races, or contact Carol Beck Crosby at 772-3403 or cbcchem@aol.com for a pre-registration form. The first 100 registrants will be given a T-shirt. Registration costs $20 for the one-mile or 5K run, or $30 for both.

The one-mile course will begin in from of the Veterans Hall and continue down Daphne Street, turning left at Sequoia Street and ending in front of Valley Springs Elementary School The 5k course will begin in front of the Veterans Hall, continue on Paloma Road to the Calaveritas Redwood Co. and then head back to the Clay Pits. Runners will turn right on Sequoia Street, ending at Valley Springs Elementary.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. A food bank collection truck will be on hand to collect donations of canned or nonperishable goods.
