Sierra Embroidery Works opens in Angels Camp

Craig and Mary Robertson are the new owners of Bandera Embroidery, now called Sierra Embroidery Works in Angels Camp.

Craig and Mary Robertson purchased Bandera Embroidery a few months ago and have rechristened the business Sierra Embroidery Works.

The Robertsons were searching for just the right business to purchase in just the right area when Craig found Bandera, a well-established embroidery shop in Angels Camp that was owned by Lucky King. He also discovered the business was for sale.

“It couldn’t have been a more perfect fit,” Mary exclaimed. “We had owned and operated Sierra Embroidery Works in Dobbins, Calif., since 2002 and wanted to stay in this line of business and be closer to our grandchildren.”

When the opportunity presented itself, the couple jumped at the chance and bought Bandera.

“It was a huge leap of faith that we bought the business before we even put our house on the market,” recalled Craig.

They purchased Bandera in July and renamed it Sierra Embroidery Works.

Expanding and stocking the shelves took some time, but the Robertsons were able to open the doors in September.

“We had no idea how much this type of business was needed here,” said Craig.

The Robertsons pride themselves on their attention to detail and their in-house scanning and digitizing abilities.

“Lucky is the best there is in this industry for digitizing,” Craig said, adding that he was happy that King was willing to stay on with the new owners as their digitizing specialist.

Customers can bring in pictures, drawings, babies’ handprints, almost anything, and King turns the creations into embroidery patterns that can be sewn onto shirts, aprons, coats, blankets, hats and more.

“You won’t find someone as detailed as her,” Mary said of King’s talents. “It is the key to good embroidery.”

Sierra Embroidery Works can tackle embroidery needs from weddings to letterman jackets, aprons to uniforms, work wear to corporate clothing and everything in between. The business can even embroider stuffed animals and blankets.

Mary also carries a selection of fun embroidered aprons, her own little business conducted under the Sierra Embroidery Works umbrella that’s called Aprons R Us.

At 330 N. Main St., Angels Camp, Sierra Embroidery Works is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Call 728-8295 for more.
