New administrator and attorney lead Angels Camp in 2018

The Angels Camp City Council approved contracts replace Mary Kelly and Derek Cole as city administrator and attorney, respectively. Kelly has been the administrator since January. Cole has been the attorney since 2012.

New faces will lead Angels Camp in 2018, after the Angels Camp City Council approved contracts for a new city administrator and attorney Tuesday.

According to a release from Angels Camp City Hall, the council tabbed Melissa Eads to be the new administrator and Douglas White, through the Sacramento-based firm Churchwell White, as attorney.

Eads replaces Administrator Mary Kelly, who is retiring. Kelly took over for outgoing Administrator Michael McHatten in January of this year after he accepted a position with the city of Soledad.

Eads, a Bret Harte High School graduate, returns to Calaveras, where she grew up, from a position as a deputy county administrator for San Joaquin County. She was the executive director for the Calaveras Council of Governments from 2011-17.

“Melissa has a strong work ethic, is committee to the community and cares about the citizens and staff,” said Kelly in the announcement. “The city is fortunate to have attracted someone with Melissa’s experience and character.”

White, a co-founder of the Churchwell White law firm, is currently the city attorney for Sonora and Dixon. He replaces outgoing City Attorney Derek Cole, who has been the city’s attorney since December of 2012.
