City council introduces ban on marijuana cultivation

Angels Camp leaders plan to ban marijuana cultivation in the city.

The Angels Camp City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to introduce an ordinance that would ban marijuana cultivation anywhere within the city.

Medical marijuana laws enacted by the California State Legislature in 2015 could cause cities to lose their ability to ban marijuana cultivation after March 1. Although a further bill has already been introduced into the legislature to assure that this does not happen, Angels Camp City Attorney Derek Cole advised the council that it “might lose authority to ban cultivation.”
