An outbuilding exploded in the area of the 6000 block of Quartz Mine Road in Mountain Ranch Saturday morning, according to a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Upon arrival, deputies were directed to a property by neighbors that heard a loud noise and people yelling.
A CCSO Explosive Ordnance Device Team (Bomb Team) deputy and Marijuana Enforcement Team members discovered evidence of “mixed light and indoor marijuana cultivation” on the property.
Deputies seized 1,000 marijuana plants and 136 pounds of processed marijuana.
As the ensuing investigation and search for suspects took place, Mark Twain Medical Center reported that a 41-year-old female had arrived at the hospital emergency room with burns.
It was later determined that the explosion occurred as the female entered the outbuilding and attempted to turn a propane stove off that had been left on overnight. She was later transported out of county to a trauma center.
Her condition status is unknown at this time, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
