A Valley Springs man was killed at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday when his motorcycle was struck by a Jeep that had crossed double yellow lines, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Richard Arnold Crosse, 56, was driving a 2001 Harley-Davidson eastbound on Highway 26 when Becky Lee Foster, 47, of Valley Springs, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee westbound, allowed her vehicle to cross the double yellows into the path of the motorcycle, the report said.

According to Foster's statement to CHP, she lost control of her vehicle after looking down at her speedometer. She told CHP when she looked back up, she was drifting into the eastbound lane. Foster reported to CHP that she swerved back to the right and then swerved to the left, which is when her Jeep struck the motorcycle.

The collision occurred just west of Hogan Dam Road.

Crosse's passenger, 83-year-old Adelle Cross, was severely injured in the crash and taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in south Sacramento, the report said.

Foster is reported to have sustained minor injuries.
