Calaveras County Water District directors awarded a contract for new construction at the Jenny Lind Water Treatment plant this week.
Jackson-based Vinciguerra Construction beat out contractors in Mokelumne Hill and Loomis for work on the new project, which is meant to further safeguard the Jenny Lind plant from possible flood damage. The project will install more pumps to ease potential flooding during storms.
CCWD Chief Engineer Bill Perley’s announcement of the winning $457,750 bid followed board action on policy variances between CCWD and the recently annexed Wallace Community Services district.
He said the contract award, more than half of which was grant-funded, was crucial to keeping hundreds of thousands in additional federal emergency infrastructure funding.
“Without this project, we don’t get the (Federal Emergency Management Agency) hazard mitigation grant,” he added.
The appointment of district delegates to serve on a handful of area water commissions and joint powers authorities arrived farther down the Wednesday agenda, which wrapped-up with board direction regarding how to best refinance the district’s decade-old revenue bonds.
Directors next regularly scheduled board session is set to begin 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Board of Directors chambers, 423 E. St. Charles St. in San Andreas.
