The Angels Camp Police Department is looking to identify the driver of a black sedan who struck and minorly injured a 14-year-old outside of Mark Twain Elementary School just before classes started on Jan. 10.

Angels Camp Chief of Police, Scott Ellis, told the Enterprise that the incident is not yet “classified as anything,” but he would like to talk to the driver and get the full story before drawing a conclusion.

He added that the driver likely lives in the nearby area and may have thought the incident “wasn’t a big deal” as the juvenile was able to walk away from the scene with the help of other students and was later released to a family member.

Ellis reminds drivers that they are required by law to remain at the scene of an accident and contact authorities, even in the case of a non-injury collision.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the driver is encouraged to contact the Angels Camp Police Department at 209-736-2567.
