The American Automobile Association (AAA) will participate in the “tipsy tow” program this year. This is a safe-ride service for both members and nonmembers.
The program will be available on New Year’s Eve and will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and end at 6 a.m. on Jan. 1 in Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Stanislaus counties. For a complete list of participating counties and locations, go to newsroom.aaa.com/safety/holiday-safe-ride-program.
AAA recommends everyone designate a sober driver, call a cab or arrange to stay with a friend before kicking off holiday celebrations.
To request a ride or a tow and ride, call 855-2-TOW-2-GO or 855-286-9246 and speak to an agent. AAA may not be able to provide both a ride and a tow, but it will advise based on availability at the time. AAA offers a ride to a residence or a safe location. If the distance is over 10 miles, the passenger may need to pay mileage to the driver.
Anyone is eligible who has been drinking and does not feel that they can safely drive home. AAA advises that this program is subject to change without notice.
