Phyllis J. Brownell-Kahl died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at home in Valley Springs. She was 88.

Mrs. Brownell-Kahl was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Oakland to Geraldine Brownell and Paul Dalina. She was a licensed vocational nurse.

Mrs. Brownell-Kahl loved sewing and crocheting, and she loved and cared for her pets as she would her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Brownell-Kahl is survived by her daughter-in-law, Dianna Andersen of Copperopolis; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Kahl, and her son, Vernon “Terry” Larry VanNatta.

There will be a private memorial service for family.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Amador & Calaveras for keeping Mrs. Brownell-Kahl comfortable, and for being present with the family through the last weeks of her life and helping them understand all the changes.
