Valley Springs resident

Dorothy Mao of Valley Springs died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. She was 86.

Mrs. Mao was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Riesel, Texas. During her teen years, she was a proud Rosie the Riveter during World War II. She received an associate degree at Bakersfield Junior College and a bachelor of science from Sonoma State University.

Mrs. Mao was a former member of Valley Christian Center in Valley Springs. She also attended Stone Corral Community Church and Clements Community Church. She planned and organized Release Time for several years in Valley Springs.

Mrs. Mao is survived by her husband of 44 years, Danny Mao of Valley Springs; daughter Christa (Angus) McIntosh of Apple Valley; sons Craig Alexander of Las Vegas and Patrick Alexander of Alaska; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be a service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16 at Valley Christian Center in Valley Springs.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Mao requested that donations in her memory be made to a church of choice.
