The Mark Twain Elementary School Drama Program brought the stage to life May 8 and 9 with its lively presentation of “Once Upon a High School,” a play exploring the unexpected twists and turns of school life when the characters from a “reality” campus and a “fairytale” campus magically merge.
In the works since early January, with only four days practice on the actual stage, the 30-member cast of eighth-grade students, “basically did everything.”
“They did so well! I’m always so impressed with the way they pull it together and make it a show that everyone enjoys,” teacher-director Sonya Garrison said. “I have kids who have no acting experience who gain so much confidence from being on stage. It is powerful being in front of people and feeding off the audience’s energy. I really do have some kids that discover their talent and it’s so fun to see.”
