The Calaveras Enterprise reported in its Nov. 2, 2017, edition of a petition signed by 170 Mark Twain Medical Center staff advocating the Mark Twain Health Care District Board of Directors to continue its affiliation with Dignity Health. I couldn’t agree more.

As a laboratory assistant at Mark Twain Medical Center, I see firsthand the daily compassion, care and commitment to community that Dignity Health has shown by its management of our hospital. But they’re not just administrators; they are people who live and work right here in Calaveras County, and Mark Twain’s affiliation with Dignity has only strengthened over time.

It would be unwise to try to run the hospital independently, given the cost and uncertainty involved, especially in the unsettled health care climate we face. The health care district board appears to wisely recognize this fact and we encourage them to vote to keep the operation of Mark Twain Medical Center under the flag of Dignity Health. They’ve proven themselves as not only leaders in health care management, but they also walk the talk in making investments for the betterment of our community.

The board is set to make a decision this month. From where I work, this is an easy decision. Retain Dignity Health!

Signed,

Ana Thompson
