In response to Jerry Hicks’ letter Sept. 18 (“Tofanelli signs conceal Edson’s”):

Seriously? This is what you are focusing on, signs? Placement? Number? Signs in general?

What about county issues, candidates’ accomplishments and their plans for our future; our survival. I believe most civic-minded residents can point out several things that would make Calaveras a better place. The question is: who can get things done? Who can lead us? Who can navigate through the “red tape” to make things happen? Who can work with four other supervisors, fighting for their districts, but patiently persistently move things forward until the objective is met.

Gary Tofanelli can. I witnessed this over the past four years and that is why he has my vote. I don’t always get the answer I want from Gary, but I get an honest answer and a reasonable explanation. I want to see him finish what he has started. To be clear, I have respect for both candidates. It takes a tremendous commitment and a real desire to do right by their district to run for Board Supervisor.

The signs. There are two sides to the story I’m sure, but I can’t imagine that either man running for office has the time to worry, or fight over signs. Their supporters might, but a word to the supporters. Don’t degrade these men by such nonsense. The candidates only want to do right for their district. Let’s focus on their message and accomplishments and give them the respect they deserve.

I think campaign signage should be outlawed on ALL main state maintained highways or at least be kept back a minimum of 300 feet. It makes our roadways look ugly like freeway bill boards.
