ALPINE COUNTY – Alpine County Chamber of Commerce's Tour of the California Alps - Death Ride® bicycle special event is scheduled to occur on July 14, 2018, from 5:00 AM to 8:30 PM along State Routes 4, 88 and 89 (SR-4, 88, 89) in Alpine and Mono Counties.

The event will be conducted on both open and closed portions of state routes as follows:

SR-89 will be closed from the intersection of SR-89 and SR-395 in Mono County to the intersection of SR-89 and SR-4 in Alpine County from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

SR-4 will be closed from Hermit Valley to the junction of SR-4 and SR-89 from 5:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

SR- 89 will be closed from the intersection of Water Street in Markleeville to the junction of SR-89 and SR-4 in Alpine County from 5:00 AM until 12:00 PM, as determined appropriate by California Highway Patrol.

The cycling special event continues on the open sections of SR-89 and SR-88 between the intersection of SR-89 and SR-4 and the Carson Pass/Meiss Meadow Trailhead Rest Area on SR- 88 between 5:00 AM until 8:30 PM. and will be subject to lowered speed limit zones and associated longer travel times.

In addition:

From past experience beginning before the special event and up to the start of the special event, there is a noticeable increase bicyclists on the course highways (State Routes 4, 88, and 89).

The highway closures and reduced speed limits are approved under permit from the State of California. For the safety of the special event participants, please plan alternate travel routes.
