The Mother Lode Friends of Music welcomes warm summer days with an afternoon of operetta, light jazz and show tunes at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Sutter Creek Theatre in Sutter Creek. The free “Summer Pops” concert promises music from Rodgers & Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and Cole Porter, all performed by Mother Lode Friends of Music members and guests.
Tenor Ricardo Campero, past winner in the Metropolitan Opera Competition, headlines the program. Known for an “effortless lyrical voice,” Campero earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music and has performed with the Sonora Bach Festival and the St. James Concert Series, and as a featured soloist with the Stockton Opera Gala, the Stockton Chorale and the Townsend Opera Players in Modesto. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, toured Europe several times and appeared at the Vatican in Rome.
He will be accompanied by pianist Rebecca Williams.
Joining Campero and Williams will be the Dogwood Chamber Players, which is comprised of Alice Williams on cello, Candis Kimball on oboe and Sandra Betti on flute. Guitarist Gordon Rowland is also part of the program.
The concert is free to attend. The Sutter Creek Theatre is at 44 Main St., Sutter Creek. For more, visit mlfm.org or call 530-676-5396.
