Family artworks sought for show

“Siblings” by Maura Purcell is part of the “Love Grows a Family” show at the Calaveras County Arts Council Gallery.

The Calaveras County Arts Council is preparing to stage its next gallery show and is seeking pieces to include from artists.

“Love Grows a Family” will be in the San Andreas gallery from April 20 to June 16, and paintings and sculptures aren’t the only works welcomed for the show.

“We’re seeking artwork about family in all its forms – human families, animal families, plant families, bug families, car families. Even color can be in a family! What is family to you?”

Artworks, poetry or short stories (stories and poems must fit on one page for display) are welcome.

The show is open to all Calaveras County residents and the show is not judged. There are no entry fees. Artwork from all ages will be accepted; only original pieces created by the artist are accepted. Two-dimensional artworks must be wired and ready to hang. Because of space limitations, the number of entries may be limited. All poetry and stories must be submitted electronically; you may frame your writing if you desire. There will be people’s choice selections with prizes awarded.

“The Calaveras Arts Council is here to serve our community by making art accessible to all,” said Executive Director Kathy Mazzaferro. “We are always seeking new ways to make our tent even bigger, whether through family art days, admission-free concerts such as Music in the Parks, or funding arts education programs to grow the next generation of creators and innovators.”

A “Love Grows a Family” reception is held from _ to _ p.m. April 27 at the gallery, when the people’s choice winner will be named. There will also be arts and crafts, performances and door prizes.
