Winefest sends guests through Sutter Creek

Tickets to the 20th annual Winefest in Sutter Creek, a popular walk-about wine-tasting event presented by AmadorArts, are on sale now.

The event is from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. Winefest finds celebrants strolling historic Main Street to visit 25 shops to taste a huge selection of Amador County wines. Participants’ first stop is the Sutter Creek Auditorium at 4 p.m., where revelers check in and pick up souvenir wineglasses, wristbands and maps. From 4:30 to 7 p.m., guests visit the shops and start tasting; participants are reminded, however, that the law states that no wine can be in glasses when attendees are outside the shops.

By 7 p.m., everyone returns to the auditorium for the festive Winefest Grand Finale, which features live music, desserts, sweet wines, the popular Mystery Wine-in-a-bag Auction and the final call for bids in a “sumptuous silent auction” for art, wine, premier gifts and travel packages.

“Now’s the time to contact your friends, book your dinner or lodging reservations, possibly a limo, and generally prepare for this greatest fundraiser of the year for AmadorArts,” says a release.

Proceeds from the very popular event provide much-needed funds for arts in education in Amador County schools and in the community. AmadorArts is a nonprofit organization that has served the county for 35 years.

Tickets for Winefest are $40 each in advance at amadorarts.org or 267-9038, or $45 on Nov. 11. The website also lists places where tickets can be purchased. There is a cap on the number of tickets that can be sold, so early purchase is strongly recommended.
