Mark Jonas of Sonora, an English teacher at Rite of Passage/Sierra Ridge Academy in San Andreas, won the Nevada City Dirt Classic in the Men’s 50-59 age group Saturday.

Jonas, father of local downhill mountain bike racer Julian Divine, won the two-lap, 11-mile event held along the Hallelujah Trail in Tahoe National Forest with a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes, and 34 seconds, which was several minutes faster than the second-place finisher.

The Nevada City Dirt Classic is a new fundraiser series benefitting Youth Bicyclists of Nevada County (YBONC) Foundation Pro-grams for school bike clubs. YBONC Foundation’s mission is to promote a positive and healthy lifestyle with the sport of cycling. They support school bike clubs and host a variety of bike-related activities with their programs.
