After some time off, the Toyon Middle School eighth grade girls’ basketball team returned to the hardwood and picked up two wins.
On Oct. 9, the Warriors knocked off Mark Twain 40-31. Bailie Clark led her team with 20 points. She also had nine steals and four rebounds. Jordynn Peterson had nine boards and eight points. Brooke Nordahl scored seven, had five rebounds and two steals. Laney Koepp scored two points and had two points with a steal. Jolee Gularte had two points and two rebounds. And Maya Miller added a point and rebound in the win.
On Thursday, Oct. 11, Toyon needed some late magic to knock off Jackson. With the game tied 36-36, Clark got fouled with seven seconds left on the clock. Clark made both shots from the charity stripe to give her team the 38-36 win.
Clark finished the night with 16 points, six steals, two assists and two rebounds. Nordahl had a double-double with 14 points, 18 rebounds and four steals. Peterson had six boards, four points and three steals. Koepp had two points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists. Abby Allen had three rounds, two steals and two points. Miller had three rebounds, two points and one block. Cassie Black recorded two rebounds and two assists. Gularte had five boards and dished out two assists. And Keira Alurcon had two rebounds.
