The Calaveras Youth Wrestling team competed on Sunday, Dec. 10 at a tournament held in Oakdale. In a tournament where nearly 700 young wrestlers competed, Calaveras had a combined 18 top three finishes.

“This was a top notch tournament,” said head coach Cliff Randolph. “There were over 700 wrestlers from what I heard. Our kids battled the Flu this week and still about half placed. I was pleased, but I think we can do better."

Calaveras got first places finishes from Ryan Osborn (96 pounds), who went a perfect 3-0. Carlos Meza (115 pounds) went an impressive 4-0. And Zachary Coggin II (58 pounds) also went a perfect 4-0.

There were 10 Calaveras wrestlers who finished in second place. Adam Johnson (70 pounds) went 1-1. Brayden Merrill (38 pounds) went 2-1. Rylan Graham (53 pounds) went 2-1. Drake Johnston (64 pounds) finished the tournament 2-1. Cody Rodriguez (123 pounds) went 3-1. Juan Meza (127 pounds) went 4-1. Jordan Coburn (215 pounds) finished 2-1. Jonathan McBride (101 pounds) went 2-1. Lucas Walters (129 pounds) finished 1-1 and Noah Johnson (115 pounds) finished the tournament going 4-1.

Calaveras got third place finishes from Elijah Mantz (50 pounds), 4-1, Gunner Guthrie (62 pounds), 4-1, Silas Langdon (81 pounds) 1-2, Chappie LaSan (127 pounds) 3-1 and Charlie Ingham (109 pounds) went 2-1.
