Angelina DeLeon picked a great time to come up with clutch hits. In four playoff games in three days, the Calaveras High School sophomore second baseman went 8 for 12 with two home runs, seven RBIs, two stolen bases, one double, one run scored and one walk.
“It was exciting and I guess I peaked at the right time,” DeLeon said.
In a 7-0 win over Casa Roble, DeLeon smacked a two-run home run to deep right-center field. The next day, while trailing Liberty Ranch 7-5 in an elimination game, DeLeon hit another two-run home run, this time with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. One inning later, with Calaveras trailing 10-9 with the tying run at third and the winning run at second, DeLeon recorded a walk-off hit to send her team to the section championship game. DeLeon finished the game against Liberty Ranch 3 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs, one run scored and one stolen base.
“That just settled in and I realize how big that was,” DeLeon said. “In the moment, I was just looking for a base hit.”
