New coach welcomes young players to clinic

In her first offseason as Bret Harte High School’s head volleyball coach, Jacey Porovich wanted to get everyone together. Porovich and her Bullfrogs put on a two-week volleyball clinic, which ran June 18-20 and June 25-27 in Angels Camp. Nearly 40 combined sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball players attended the clinic.

“It’s been great,” Porovich said during Tuesday’s clinic, which was also crazy hair day. “One reason why I like having two weeks of camp is that I like to give them some tools, send them home, have them practice some things on their own time and then come back and put those tools back to work. It’s been neat to see those progressions over the past two weeks. We’ve got some studs coming up in the program. We have a ton of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders out here, which I think shows some promise for the future.”

Bret Harte will have its first regular season home game against Summerville on Sept. 5.
