Cynthia Dunn-Selph has created art in a multitude of media throughout her life: acrylics, ceramics, mosaics, photography, paper-making and more. Her current focus is on printmaking and encaustics, so she has entitled her March show at the Sutter Creek Gallery, “Mixed Media Medley.” She welcomes viewers to explore her works at a reception at the gallery in Sutter Creek on March 2.

Encaustic painting involves heating beeswax and applying it to a rigid surface. The wax can be colored and then used to embed photographs, leaves and other objects onto the surface.

Dunn-Selph has created commissioned pieces and shown and sold her works in California, Kansas and Arizona, and she has earned numerous awards. She currently teaches classes to children and adults through the Amador County Recreation Agency, and at area art venues, focusing on the aspects of process and play, rather than just technique. She also teaches at Taste of the Arts, the community outreach program presented by AmadorArts (see related article).

The gallery welcomes guests to meet Dunn-Selph at the reception planned for 2 to 5 p.m. March 2 at the gallery at 35 Main St., Sutter Creek. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays. For more, visit suttercreekgallery.com or call 267-0228.
