There are five candidates for Saddle Queen this year and they will take to the Frogtown Arena for the annual competition at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19.
These young horsewomen face a difficult day as they square off in eight different aspects of competition. They are judged on a horsemanship test and participate in interviews with the judges. The contestants’ community service is examined, too. Then the ladies compete in arena activities that include equitation, ranch horse, flag run, barrel race and the Queen’s Lap.
The 2016 Saddle Queen receives a $1,000 scholarship. She is joined by first and second princesses, and additional awards are given to the winners of each area of competition, and to the girls selected as Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality. The competition is directed by Michele Lee and is included with fair admission.
