For newcomers to the area who didn’t quite believe old timers’ tales of towering snow banks at Bear Valley, this season should set the record straight.
On March 22, Bear Valley Mountain Resort reported a snow total of 640 inches, breaking the resort’s all-time record set during the season of 1982-83.
“These are amazing snow totals all through the Sierra this season and certainly a season to be remembered,” Mattly Trent, ski patrol director and snow safety director at Bear Valley Mountain Resort, posted to social media. “Seven hundred inches is on its way!”
Trent said that the old record of 639 inches was set on April 30, 1983. Record keeping began when the resort opened in the late 1960s.
