The Calaveras varsity and junior varsity wrestling teams each came out on top at the Mother Lode League Wrestling Tournament Friday at Calaveras High School. Bret Harte’s teams secured the second place slots at both levels.

“The varsity has won the league tournament four years in a row,” said Calaveras junior varsity coach Mark Bowe.

The JVs also have won the past four years, he said.

The Calaveras varsity team had five winners, and six second-place, one third-place, two fourth-place and one fifth-place finishers with a combined total of 205 points. Bret Harte had five winners, and one second-place, five third-place, one fourth-place and one fifth-place finishers totaling 171.5 points. The league’s other schools finished in the following order: Amador, 125.5 points; Argonaut, 88; Linden, 63; and Summerville, 7.

Among the JV teams, Amador, Argonaut, Summerville and Linden, respectively, followed Calaveras and Bret Harte.

Overall, Calaveras has had a great year, Bowe said. The school won its fourth Section Dual meet just two weeks ago.

“The varsity is 15-0. They have a 52-0 match win streak over the past three years. The JVs finished 7-1 this year,” he said.

The teams travel to Amador Friday for the Small School Section Tournament. The event begins at 9 a.m.

“We finished second last year by 1.5 points,” Bowe said. “We won in 201.”
