Celebrate in holiday style at Big Trees

Civic clubs, organizations and businesses planning holiday celebrations will have a new location available this year – a mountain lodge decorated for the holidays and just a short walk from the Sequoia Grove at Calaveras Big Trees State Park.

Calaveras Big Trees offers the historic Jack Knight Hall, a rustic lodge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, for holiday events during December.

The spacious hall features a giant stone fireplace, hand-hewn log beams, massive windows looking out into the park and a short stroll (or snowshoe walk) to the grove of giant redwood trees. The hall will be decorated in holiday style with a giant Christmas tree, wreaths, ornaments and lights.

The hall has been a central gathering place in the state park for 75 years and has been the scene of weddings and celebrations throughout the decades. The Calaveras Big Trees Association will organize events and proceeds from the hall’s use will help support educational and interpretive programs available free to the public.
