Nearly 1,300 marijuana plants were seized by Calaveras County authorities during eradication efforts at two sites Monday.
According to a news release from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, 977 plants, equaling 2,600 pounds, were eradicated from an illegal grow along the 1100 block of Arapahoe Lane in Burson, while 303 were destroyed at a site along the 6200 block of Michel Road near Mountain Ranch. Both locations were subjects of marijuana abatement warrants.
Also located at the Burson site was garbage and construction debris. The release said possible code violations were noted at the Mountain Ranch farm that could prompt follow up.
Man arrested in car vs. tree accident
A Lodi man was arrested Tuesday after he drove off a shoulder and hit a tree near Valley Springs.
According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 1999 Toyota at 70 mph eastbound on Highway 12 near Oak Leaf Lane just before 7:30 p.m. when he allowed his vehicle to drive onto the north shoulder of the highway before hitting the tree.
He was transported via ambulance to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
After the incident, Jeffrey Breen, 41, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
One arrested in weekend accident
A Valley Springs man was arrested last weekend after he drove off the roadway and hit a tree in the Rancho Calaveras subdivision outside Valley Springs.
According to the CHP, Cody Wise, 22, of Valley Springs, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger southbound on Baldwin Street south of usher Drive at an unknown speed shortly after midnight on Sept. 10 when he unsafely turned and drove off the road and onto a dirt shoulder. As a result, Wise lost control of the Ranger and hit a tree.
He sustained minor injuries in the incident and was transported via air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Wise was arrested on a misdemeanor drunken driving charge following the crash.
