Ron Ray Brawner of Tehachapi died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011. He was 75.
Born Feb. 3, 1936, in Tulsa, Okla., Mr. Brawner graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in civil engineering. He married Trudy Gilman in 1959. The couple moved to Bellflower so he could work on the Apollo project. In 1965, the couple moved to Calaveras County with their children, Brad and Julie, where he was hired to work as a civil engineer for the Calaveras Cement Company. In 1983 he was transferred to Boulder City, Nev., to continue work with Genstar, a lime division of Calaveras Cement after the San Andreas plant closed. In 1989, they relocated again to Tehachapi, where Mr. Brawner continued to work for Calaveras Cement, which had recently purchased the Monolith plant. He was plant engineer until his retirement in 2005, and continued as a consultant for several years.
He and his family were one of the founding families of Heritage Oaks School in Tehachapi. He was the chairman of the school board for many years and remained actively involved until his death. He was an elder of the County Oaks Baptist Church and president of the Ryukyu Philatelic Specialist Society. Most recently he was involved in researching end times and enjoyed theological and political discussions.
Mr. Brawner is survived by his wife, Trudy; sons Bradley (Marlene) Brawner and John (Aimee) Brawner; daughter Julie (Terry) Renberg; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Country Oaks Baptist Church in Tehachapi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Oaks School, 20915 Schout Road, Tehachapi, CA 93561.
