Two essential skills will be presented at the Mother Lode Bonsai Club meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at the clubhouse at Oak Shadows Mobile Home Park in San Andreas.

Sensei (teacher) Dave Anderson of Pine Grove conducts a free public demonstration on the techniques of wiring and styling following the club’s monthly meeting.

“Wiring is a method used in shaping and holding your bonsai tree in a form that you want it to grow in,” he said. “It can be compared to a cast that holds a person’s injured limb in a desired position.”

“Styling, on the other hand, is the technique of sculpting your tree into one of many possible bonsai styles. This is where the art of bonsai takes place. You choose the tree’s form and then style it to grow in that manner.”

Club demonstrations are open to anyone with an interest in bonsai miniature trees. All are welcome to attend regardless of their levels of knowledge, experience or training in this horticultural hobby of living art.

The clubhouse is at 1330 Calaveritas Road (off Mountain Ranch Road), San Andreas. For more, visit motherlodebonsai.org or call club President Bob Dean at 754-5887.
