As cruise control became a standard feature on automobiles, hitting the speed limit and rolling through the landscape became a little easier. (Driverless cars seem ridiculous to me, so we’ll pretend they won’t hit our roadways anytime soon.) Airline pilots have the autopilot to fly them to their destinations and some drivers hope that’s to come for our cars, but I daresay that the subject of this week’s feature would throw a monkey wrench into the works, or at least some sprinkles, hot fudge and whipped cream.
The Mother Lode’s artisan ice cream makers unknowingly caused our cars to obtain minds of their own, because many of us find our vehicles automatically pull over when we near their cute shops. We’ve got to get a cone or a cup or a sundae and our cars know it, so they pull us right into place.
Ice cream is a nearly universal treat that’s enjoyed by everyone I know; I cannot recall anyone ever telling me they didn’t like it. And I’d wager that if you asked a crowd of children about ice cream, those screams would deafen you for a moment; then you’d have to grab a pen and paper to take all the orders for extra sprinkles and more peanuts.
While most might consider ice cream a summertime-only treat, I’d also wager that there’s hardly a moment during the other three seasons when someone would turn down a frosty dessert. Combine a delightfully smooth ice cream with the fantastically fresh and fantastic flavors that these Mother Lode makers have introduced and everyone grins from ear to ear.
“When I have bad days, I just eat lots of chocolate ice cream and dance to the ‘Lion King’ soundtrack. It’s really odd, but it’s true,” said Blake Lively of “Gossip Girl” fame.
“Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor Chris Pratt took the spoon right out of my mouth when he said, “You can pour melted ice cream on regular ice cream. It’s like a sauce!”
So hike an extra mile and allow the car to do what it does without your steering it that way. Your taste buds get a treat, your kids will adore you and everyone’s soul gets satisfied.
