Calaveras beats Bret Harte in Big Game

The Calaveras High football team retained the coveted Bell Trophy for a record 12th straight year with a 35-33 victory over rival Bret Harte Friday night in San Andreas.

Bret Harte gave the Redskins all they could handle, recovering an onside kick with 5 minutes to go in the game trailing by two, but was unable to capitalize.

Calaveras finished second in the Mother Lode League with the win and will advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs for the 15th straight year.

Bret Harte will have to wait until Saturday afternoon to find out if it made the playoffs for the first time since 2007, but the Bullfrogs are likely out following last night’s loss.
