ORE CART DEDICATION: The recently installed Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce ore cart on Highway 26 outside of West Point was christened April 11 by Sierra Pacific Industries General Manager Ed Struffenegger when he smashed a bottle of champagne against the structure. District 2 Supervisor Paul Stein was master of ceremonies of the event. He acknowledged the businesses and individuals instrumental in completing the project. SPI donated the money to build the cart and Calaveras Materials donated the rock. Ray Thengvall of Frog Hollow helped with placement of cart and Gilbeau Crane Service placed the ore cart at the site, which is situated on land donated by Rick and Melody Murray. The first-place Bret Harte Diamond Frogs improved 6-2 in the Mother Lode League with wins Monday and Tuesday against Argonaut.
